The company started from an extremely heart-wrenching situation where my friend’s son was going to college, but on arrival there was an unexpected cost of thousands that the family was not aware of, so he had to come back and set about planning to go in the next term. After arriving home, Sonny and his dad, Dave, started brainstorming some ideas to get some extra funds to go to bike college quicker. Dave had been working with chemicals at this time, and they came up with the idea of making tyre sealant and did an extremely good job of it.

Shortly after, the worst thing imaginable happened – still hard to say now – but Sonny had a fatal accident and obviously, things got put on the back burner.

Fast forwarding a couple of months, Dave, aka ‘Dr Donk’, and Frank, along with some others, were out on a New Year’s ride when Frank needed some tyre sealant and Donk had some, which he happily gave to Frank but did not tell him where the sealant had come from. We got on with the day and had a great ride.

A couple of weeks after this, Donk and Frank were sitting in the bike shed on Friday enjoying Friday’s pleasures when Donk turned to Frank and said, “Oi, you know that tyre sealant I gave you the other day?” Frank replied, “Yeaaaaa,” and Donk went on to say, “Well, you know me and Sonny made that,” and told me the story of how Sonny was supposed to be at college when the fatality happened. Donk was laughing at Frank as if to say, “Haha, got ya good, aye,” and Frank was in disbelief, looking at Donk, and went on to explain, “This is not for your garage, this is amazing, and now we have Sonny’s job to do.”

And Sonny’s Super Sealant was born. This is why we’ve set a foundation for disadvantaged young riders to fund them for the Base College Bike School.
